Ten members of the Bermuda junior badminton team are competing at the Victor Ontario Junior Tournament, taking place at the prestigious Markham Pan Am Centre, in Ontario, Canada, until Sunday.

Bermuda’s competitors at the tournament are part of the high number of 468 entries from Canada and overseas.

The Bermuda National Junior Badminton Association said that the island’s top players, Emma Moran-Lee and Aaron Simmons, had done a lot of work with the players to get them geared up for their maiden foreign expedition.

The association added: “For the past three years, the coaches have been building up to this tournament at the Bermuda Junior Badminton coaching sessions that are held at Somersfield Academy throughout the year. Players are ranked as No 1 or 2 for their age group singles or doubles.”

Expansion of the sport on the island has laid the foundation to plan for more trips abroad.

“This is the first overseas trip for the junior players and the team plan on travelling to the Caribbean next,” the association said.

“Badminton in Bermuda is growing and the coaches are committed to developing our youth.”
