Alvina Brangman wins three gold medals in Bahamas
Alvina Brangman had planned to retire after competing in the NPC Bahamas Grand Prix and NPC Worldwide Caribbean Grand Prix in Bahamas.
However, the 52-year-old bodybuilder has since had a change of heart after securing three gold medals at last weekend’s event held inside The Coral at Atlantis Hotel.
“I was going to retire after these two shows but it has reignited the flame in me to continue on,” Brangman told The Royal Gazette. “I am aiming to do one or two pro qualifying shows next.
“Word of advice to others; do what you love to do.”
The mother of two captured the Masters and Open titles in the regional NPC Bahamas Grand Prix as well as Masters honours in the NPC Worldwide Caribbean Grand Prix to complete the treble. She also participated in a pro qualifier held in conjunction with the NPC Worldwide Caribbean Grand Prix, placing fifth.
Sharing her experience on her Facebook account, Brangman wrote: “Let me first say this was an amazing experience stepping on the stage again at the age of 52. This sport is not for many — it is selfish and requires a lot of sacrifice.
“The first show was in the morning, which was the regional show. I placed first in the Open and first in the Masters. I actually do not see that as a win because I was the only one in my class for the Open, and for the Masters there were two of us.
“For the Pro qualifier I came fifth in the Open and in the Masters 45+ came first. I would have had to win the Open to receive my pro card.
“Am I disappointed? I am a bit, but I am happy with the improvements I have made and still have a long way to go.
“The anatomy and the transformation of the body is truly amazing and captivates me. I guess that's why I retire and then come out of retirement. I love a challenge.”
