Monday turned out to be an ideal day for bowler Lamar Richardson as he rolled a perfect game in the Continental Bowling League.

The 33-year-old scored 300 for the fourteenth time in his career at Warwick Lanes and he feels his latest achievement has come as a result of the effort he has been putting into the sport of late.

“It definitely feels good,” Richardson said.

“I believe it's a testament to how hard I’ve worked on the game leading up to the World Championships.

“I never take bowling a perfect game for granted as I know people spend their whole lives trying to do it once, but I have been blessed to achieve it 14 times.

Richardson is part of a Bermuda team leaving on Thursday for the International Bowling Federation World Bowling Championships in Hong Kong. His team-mates include Dayvon Tucker, Dennis Joell, Michael Honore, David Maycock and Anthony Hayward, with the Bermudians bracing themselves to go up against the best bowlers in the world.

Bermuda bowlers are familiar with the hosting centre, Top Bowl, as three members of the team also participated at the same venue this year during the IBF Bowling World Cup.

Bermuda made it to the round of 16 at that event before being beaten by Saudi Arabia.

“All members of the team have been busy the last few months sharpening their games and preparing for these championships so they can better prepare for the large task at hand,” Steven Riley, the team manager said.

“Team Bermuda will be up against strong favourites, the United States, Malaysia and Sweden at this prestigious event.

“At the World Cup back in January, Bermuda defeated tournament winners Malaysia 2-1. We are aware that the task at hand will be tough but we are extremely confident they will cause another upset.

“All members of the team have a wealth of experience bowling internationally as Richardson, Maycock, Tucker and Joell have participated in previous world championships, while Honore and Hayward will be making their debut appearances.

“Bermuda will use these championships as they prepare for next summer’s Central American and Caribbean Games Games in Dominican Republic, which they have already qualified for.”
