Opportunities to study at American boarding schools are on offer for Bermudian student-athletes during the Global Education and Sports Partners showcases this weekend.

Mount Saint Agnes Academy Gymnasium is the venue for the basketball showcase on Saturday.

The initiative for girls and boys aged from 12 to 18 runs from 12.30pm to 5pm in conjunction with Bermuda Youth Basketball.

Goose Gosling Field is expected to be buzzing on Sunday for the football showcase. The under-13s and under-15s will show off their talent at 11am and the under-16s and under-18s take to the field at 1pm.

Matt Kokoszka, the GESP founder, is bringing representatives from some of the 70 boarding schools in the organisation to the island for the two activities.

“We are bringing seven boarding schools from the United States,” Kokoszka said.

“It’s a mix of different people, there’s some coaches and admissions people coming over.

“We help families identify the schools that are the right academic, athletic and financial fits for that family. We help them identify three viable school options for them.

“Last year, ten Bermudian families got opportunities to go to US boarding schools. It was a successful event and we’re looking forward to another one this year.

“I would say over 50 have now benefited from our programme since we started coming to Bermuda seven years or so ago.”

“I love coming to Bermuda, the people are always great. The weather’s always nicer than New England at this time of the year, for the most part.”

Riley Robinson and Lazai Outerbridge, D’Ari Trott, Malik Paynter, Amir Brangman-Johnson, D’Ari Coddington, Evans Welch, Daion Swan-DeSilva, Jayla Peets-Butterfield and Dakari Smith-Davis, are some of the Bermudian student-athletes who were assisted by GESP to enrol at US boarding schools over the years.
