For the second weekend running the domestic sporting calendar was decimated by bad weather.

While there were no matches scheduled in the Premier Division because of the number of locally based players participating in a training camp, the Bermuda Select squad’s second match against touring side Portland Hearts of Pine at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Sunday was called off just 90 minutes before kick-off.

The Bermuda Football Association said the decision was made on safety grounds.

“The Bermuda Select Invitational match against Portland Hearts of Pine has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions,” a BFA statement read.

“After careful assessment the decision was made in the interest of player, officials and spectator safety as the current conditions are unsafe for play.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”

The only football match that did make the cut at the weekend was the First Division game between Southampton Rangers and Somerset Eagles at a wet and windy Southampton Oval on Sunday. Somerset boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-1 victory.

The Celebrity Motocross Day, which was scheduled to begin at midday at Southside, St David’s on Sunday, was postponed earlier in the week when the weather forecast suggested wet and windy conditions would be prevalent.

Sports minister Owen Darrell and Mr Fotogenik were among the local celebrities set to suit up for the event and organisers hope that they will still be available to entertain the crowds on the rescheduled date of February 22.

Swan’s Running Club were forced to postpone the Ed Sherlock 8K on Sunday morning. Due to start and finish at Southampton Rangers Sports Club, the race is usually the opening leg of the prestigious Legends Series, which also features the Ludwig Cann 10k and Ray Swan 8K.

But after some swift rejigging, the Ed Sherlock 8K will now be the final race in the series on April 4.

For the second week in a row the only action that took place in Bermuda on Sunday was on the rugby pitches with the Denton Hurdle Memorial matches taking place at North Field.
