Irish celebrations planned at Gaelic Games tournament

It will not just be Irish eyes smiling next month when Bermuda Gaelic Athletic Association hosts a Gaelic Games tournament next month.

Wellington Oval will be the venue on Saturday, March 21, just days after St Patrick’s Day for a seven-a-side blitz football tournament, with teams selected by Bermuda GAA to ensure a balanced and fair competition.

The tournament is free to play and is open to everybody aged 18 and over with all levels of experience ― from beginners to seasoned players ― welcome to participate.

Following the tournament, celebrations will continue at Moongate Brewing Co from 3pm until late with a lively St Patrick’s Day-themed party. Attendees can expect traditional Irish music, hot food, and plenty of fun to round out the day.

To sign up for the tournament follow Bermuda_GAA on Instagram and send a direct message to individually register or you can sign up via the Player Interest form.

You do not need to be a member to play in the tournament but anybody interested in becoming a member of BGAA can e-mail secretary.bermuda.southeast.usa@gaa.ie

Louise Edwards, chair of BGAA is delighted to be involved in the re-establishment of the organisation.

“Organised Gaelic football has previously existed on the island through an earlier Bermuda GAA club, but we are now actively re-establishing Bermuda GAA again.

“The club is proud to be building on that legacy and helping to renew Gaelic Games in Bermuda for a new generation of players. Bermuda GAA is a growing and vibrant club committed to building a welcoming and inclusive Gaelic Games community on the island. Since its establishment, the club has already attracted players of all abilities and nationalities and is actively seeking new members to join as it continues to grow.”

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) is Ireland’s largest sporting and cultural organisation, promoting traditional Irish sports including Gaelic football and hurling. Built on community spirit, inclusivity, and volunteerism, the GAA connects people of all backgrounds through sport and culture around the world.
