Tigers have confirmed as winners of the Netball Bermuda Netball League in the Premier Division in their final season before breaking up.

Anthony Mouchette’s side defeated Storm Surge 45-24 in their last match of the season to clinch the title with an unbeaten record, just as they did during the 2024-25 period.

The Trott twins scored all the goals for the champions, with Jahkenya scoring 30 goals and Jahtuere on target 15 times.

Khianda Pearman-Watson, the Tigers captain, attributed the team’s success to players sticking together.

“Winning the championship again this season feels amazing, especially doing it unbeaten for the second year in a row,” Pearman-Watson said.

“It really shows the consistency, hard work and commitment the team has put in all season. Everyone stayed focused on the goal and supported each other from start to finish.

“The rain disruptions definitely made things challenging with games being postponed and the schedule changing, but we didn’t let it distract us.

“We stayed focused in training and just took things one game at a time. Whenever we stepped on the court, the mindset was always the same.”

Pearman-Watson, a Bermuda defender, believes the presence of national players in the Tigers side gave them the edge over other teams.

“A big part of our success is the talent we have on the team,” the Tigers captain said.

“We’re fortunate to have some of Bermuda’s top players. Jahtuere and Jahkenya Trott are two of the best shooters in Bermuda and bring a lot of strength to our attack.

“Demiqua Daniels is one of Bermuda’s most versatile players and can impact the game in multiple positions. Jordyn Ming is a force to be reckoned with in both attack and defence, while Kaylee Lema is a midcourt player who gives her all every time she steps on the court.

“Brianna Ray is a young and talented player who is also multitalented across different sports.

“I also want to shout out Candacé Paynter, Shelby Medeiros, Knakita Bent, Diara Benjamin, Kayjuna Lema and Zariah Amory. Every single player has contributed to this season in their own way.

“Being the captain for this final season has been a wonderful experience. We’ve supported each other both on and off the netball court, and I’m truly thankful for every player on this team.”

Pearman-Watson paid tribute to Anthony Mouchette, who is retiring from coaching.

“I want to give a special shoutout to Anthony Mouchette,” she said.

“He has believed in us from the very beginning and has shown up consistently week after week and year after year.

“He has never doubted us. He is truly one of Bermuda’s best coaches and has played a huge role in developing many of us from a young age. His passion and love for netball is unmatched, we’re grateful for the time, dedication and belief he has poured into this team.”

Despite giving up his regular coaching role, Mouchette will remain involved with netball at a national level.

“There’ll be no more Tigers going forward,” he said.

“I have encouraged the players to play for other teams or take up coaching as I want to assist with the national programme.”

Ray, who is better known for her exploits on the cricket field, enjoyed her first season playing senior netball on the island.

“The girls took me in, we all bonded from the first session and it’s just all been positive from there,” she said.

“It’s nice to be in a group of girls who want to grow and get better every training session and be around that environment.

“All the teams we’ve played against have such good talent, so there was never an easy game and everyone works really hard.”

Storm captain Debré Evans, whose team finished as runners-up, expressed pride in her side.

“I’m so proud of my team for consistently being able to pull a rabbit out of a hat,” Evans said.

“We have consecutively come second place, be it behind Tigers or Phoenix and that’s still something.

“Our time will come eventually, but we’re all growing as players and that’s the end goal to grow and not be stagnant.

“No matter what, I am proud of my team as this season has not been easy for us, no season is ever easy as teams make sure they have their best team when it comes to playing us.”

Phoenix Heat, who dominated the league for years before Tigers took over, settled for third position. Kianté Lightbourne, one of the club’s senior players, took solace from their junior teams dominating their respective leagues.

“Phoenix is always applying pressure,” Lightbourne said.

“As you know our senior team, Heat, is in a little bit of a transitional period while we work on bringing up the youngsters and still mingling in the more experienced players as and when they’re available.

“The league also went through a transition that saw our senior division expand into a Premier and First Division, so we are glad to maintain our spot in the Premier Division.

“We have a fairly large junior programme and teams in every division that Netball Bermuda offers.

“Our 10 and under team is Sparks, they take part in the developmental league and they are full of energy.

“Our Phoenix Embers compete in the 13 and under division. They had a phenomenal season winning all their matches to take the league title.

“Then we have 16 and under Phoenix Fire, who with only one defeat also won their division. With the reintroduction of the First Division to our local netball scene, we repurposed our Phoenix Flames.

“This is another bunch of talented young ladies, who went undefeated in securing the league title. The future of Phoenix is definitely bright.”
