Blake Montgomery’s Wisconsin lose in NCAA hockey final

Blake Montgomery dejected after losing to Denver in NCAA hockey final

Bermudian Blake Montgomery’s Wisconsin side lost to Denver in the final of the NCAA Hockey Championship on Saturday night.

Wisconsin let a one-goal lead slip, conceding twice in the third period to lose 2-1 at the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas.

For much of the final it appeared as if Montgomery’s side would bring home the title, with Vasily Zelenov scoring in the opening period and the Fighting Badgers much the best team.

Rieger Lorenz tied the game with 12min 29sec left in regulation, and Kyle Chyzowski gave Denver the lead less than seven minutes later as the Pioneers completed a comeback to secure their eleventh national championship.

Wisconsin outshot Denver 30-15 and were unlucky to lose, with Montgomery given a two-minute penalty late on for holding.
