College round-up: Bermuda’s young sports stars in action

Football

Jace Donawa featured in both University of Carolina’s wins in the past seven days as the Tar Heels extended their winning streak to three. Donawa played 32 minutes in the 2-0 win over West Florida and was on the pitch for 18 minutes in the 3-1 win over Boston College.

La Zai Outerbridge played two matches in 24 hours as Hobart and William Smith College hosted its Homecoming and Family Weekend. Hobart, ranked No 13, were beaten 4-0 by Clarkson University on Saturday before improving to beat No 22 Cortland on Sunday.

Ayden Gardner played 14 minutes as Nichols College picked up their third win in a row with a 1-0 victory at Curry College. The victory marked the Bisons’ third consecutive win and improved Nichols to 7-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Conference of New England (CNE) play.

Defender Maxwell Mobray played 74 minutes as Harvard University beat Columbia on Saturday afternoon. The Crimson improved to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Ivy League play.

Austin Mobray played the full 90 minutes as Boston University beat Loyala 2-1 in Maryland to remain unbeaten in Patriot League play.

Sachiel Ming continued his good form for Syracuse University by providing another assist as his side drew 1-1 with Pittsburgh. Syracuse’s record is now 7-3-1 and 1-2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Tre Burgess, Cody Robinson, Justin Sukdeo, Chance Eve and T’syi Showers all played a part in Thomas College’s 2-0 win over the University of Maine. They are now a perfect three from three in the North Atlantic Conference.

Danni Watson featured in both games for West Virginia State University this week. Watson provided an assist in the Yellow Jackets 2-1 loss to Point Park before playing in WSVU’s 3-1 win over West Liberty. Watson’s side now have a 4-2-3 record in the Mountain East Conference.

Sami Carolo also got himself an assist as Saint Mary’s University beat Mount Allison 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Isai Gibbons and Kydan Browne were also in the squad as the Huskies took their record in the West Coast Conference to 2-3-2.

Xahvi DeRoza was unlucky not to break the deadlock after having two of the University of New Hampshire’s three shots on target in the 0-0 draw with Dartmouth College.

Machai Davis played 53 minutes in Rivier University’s 3-0 win over Lesley University last week.

Khari Sharieff played in both of Howard University’s Northeast Conference matches this week. Sharieff was involved in the 2-1 win at Chicago State and a 1-1 home draw with Mercyhurst.

Shantia Berkeley came on as a second-half substitute in Durham College’s 3-1 win over Cambrian.

Nile Bean played in both Endicott College matches this week, featuring in a 1-1 draw against No 10 Bowdoin and a match against Johnson & Wales, which finished with the same scoreline.

Sailing

Christian Ebbin represented Tulane University in the Danmark Trophy in Connecticut. Ebbin teamed with crew Sabrina Anderson in B Division to post five finishes in the top five. The duo ended the regatta with a total score of 91. Tulane finished sixth out of 19 teams with a total team score of 188 through 11 rotations.

Jack Adderley competed for Rollins College in the Charleston Fall Interconference, competing aboard 420s in a two-division scoring format.

Adderley served as skipper alongside crew Alexander Goldsmith in A Division, with the duo tallying 73 points. Adderley and Goldsmith finished inside the top ten in five of the eight races, highlighted by a fifth-place result in the second race. The duo closed the regatta strong, posting consecutive sixth-place finishes in the final two races of the event.

Eckerd College were also in action at the Charleston Fall Interconference, with PJ Rodrigues and Jordan Vieira representing Bermuda.

Vieira, competing in A Division and Rodrigues, taking part in B Division, both recorded race victories at the regatta. Eckerd finished tied for first overall but lost the head-to-head tiebreaker to Charleston.

Golf

Sophomore Sienna Mosquera helped Lehigh University to second place at the Autumn Harvest. Mosquera tied for thirteenth place of the 65 players at 224 (76-74-74), with three birdies in her final round.

Field Hockey

Lauren Cardwell featured for the University of Toronto in their 1-1 draw with McMaster With four games remaining in the season, U of T has a 4-1-3 record
