There will be a rematch of the last year’s Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championships final today after Jarryd Dillas and Nick Mansell were both victorious in yesterday’s semi-finals at Mid Ocean Club.Dillas defeated Camiko Smith four and three to put himself within arms reach of a successful title defence, while Mansell defeated Robert Vallis two and one.Dillas, who beat Mansell two and one last year after being down four holes, believes he is getting better at the competition unfolds.“I played much better today, I’ve been getting better as the rounds go by and I played very clean today so I’m happy,” said Dillas.“Camiko and I gave each other a few holes, but I played really well through the middle rounds, birdied eight and nine and close it out with a birdie on 15 so it was pleasing.“The final is a rematch of last year’s final, we are good friends so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.“He is a good golfer so I’ll have my hands full in defending my title. We had a lot of bad weather last year, so hopefully it is better this time around.“It has been a while since someone has repeated as I have heard so it will be good to win again, as I said my game is getting better and if i keep the ball in front of, make a few putts I feel I will be holding the trophy come the end of the tournament.”Mansell had a slighter harder day on the course, having to go the full distance to see off a spirited Vallis.“I played quite well today, I didn’t do anything strange,” said Mansell. I made a few birdies and a couple bogeys but for the most part it was very steady.“I’m looking to beat him this time around, it is going to be different this time around in terms of the weather, we won’t be out there in our rain suits so that’s a good thing.“It’s always good to get into a final and I’m looking forward to it.“Hopefully I get the better of him this time around and prove that one fo the older guys can beat one of the younger guys.”In the Ladies semi-finals, previous winners Tariqah Walikraam will meet Ebonie Burgess in today’s final after winning their matches.Walikraam defeated Shirley Leach four and three, while Burgess defeated Wendy Salvia two and one. Both finals are 36-hole affairs.
