Phillips first in college tournament

Bermuda golfer Mark Phillips has been named the Sun Conference’s Men’s Golfer of the Week for matches player between March 12-18.

The South Carolina Beaufort player continued his strong spring with a first collegiate victory, winning the Sand Shark Classic by three strokes to help USCB claim the team title at Chechessee Creek Club.

Phillips shot a four-over 214 (71-73-70) to win the tournament, finishing first out of 70 golfers.

“I’m happy to see Mark earn his first victory at USCB and I hope this sparks a fire for the rest of the team,” USCB coach Chris Cuneo said.

“I am very proud of the team and their performance on very difficult greens. It was a good win against some very solid teams and we are looking forward to working hard for the rest of the spring.”

USCB travel to Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, for the 41st annual Marine Corps Intercollegiate from today until Sunday.
