National Golf Club of Canada take lead
The National Golf Club of Canada ‘B’ have taken the lead in the junior men’s net division of the annual Goodwill Tournament, with just two strokes separating the top three teams going into today’s final round.In yesterday’s third round, National Golf Club of Canada fired an 11 under par 59 at Tucker’s Point Club to lead by one stroke over Hi5Golf.The over night leaders, Hi5Golf out of Canada, have dropped back to second place, one shot off the lead at 31 under par while last year’s division leaders, Woodland CC, are in third place just two strokes behind the leaders. Hidden Valley are in fourth place, three shots off the lead after carding a 62 yesterday at Riddell’s Bay.In the junior gross division, the Performance Academy of Magna have extended their lead to six shots and are 19 under par for the tournament. Hi5Golf are in second place while Hidden Valley Golf Club and Rhode Island Golf Club are third and fourth respectively.The Par 5 Club are carrying the Bermuda flag proudly in the senior men’s net division, after a blistering 57 at Tucker’s Point yesterday allowed them to extend their lead to three strokes.Par 5 Club are also leading the senior gross division at 17 under par, a four-shot lead over nearest rivals The Lakes Golf and Country Club. Third are Oshawa Golf and Curling Club with Mississaugua Golf Club ‘B’ in fourth place.The Riddell’s Bay team remain in the hunt for the ladies net title with a three-shot lead over another local team, Mid Ocean Club. Riddell’s Bay have a three-day total of 27 under par while the Mid Ocean Ladies are at 24 under par.Mid Ocean Ladies extended their lead in the gross division by three more shots yesterday to sit at 11 under par for the tournament. Riddell’s Bay are in second place on five under par and London Hunt Club third on two under.Local professional, Christopher Smith, a member of Par 5 Club, has the lead in the junior professional division with a three-day total of 60 points. Smith will have to conquer the Port Royal Golf Club today in order to hold on to a start-to-finish win.Four points behind Smith is Terry Hatch from the Hidden Valley Golf Club on 56 points and he will finish today at Mid Ocean Club.Danny King from the Performance Academy is in third with 55 points and Dennis Hendershott from Hi5Golf fourth on 53 points.Lakes Golf and Country Club professional and past champion, Scott Spence, took advantage of the conditions at Port Royal to post a fine 20 points to take the lead in the senior professional division with 57 points. Jim Sheerin from the Abenaqui Country Club, Ted Griffin from Woodland Golf Club ‘A’ and overnight leader Danny Mijovic from Kings Riding are all four points behind the leader on 53.Wendy Shankelton of the London Hunt and Country Club has set herself up with a very comfortable 13 point lead going into the final round in the professional ladies division. She closed out her day with 14 points at the Tucker’s Point Club.In second place is Toronto Golf Club professional Johnalee Marshall who was able to pick up 11 points at Tucker’s Point to make her three-day total 34. Ann Carroll from Lambton Golf and Country Club has a total of 28 points.The Final round takes place today starting at 8.30am at each golf course. If a playoff is needed to determine division leaders, it will take place at the Riddell’s Bay Golf Club starting at 3pm. The prize presentation for the players will be at 6pm at the Hamilton Princess Hotel on the south lawn.
