Sims fails to make cut in Georgia tournament
Michael Sims’ early-season struggle on the Web-Com Tour continued yesterday as he failed to make the cut at the Stadion Classic at UGA tournament in Georgia, the state where he resides.
The 34-year-old Bermudian appeared set to play over the weekend after an even-par 71 in the first round on Thursday at the University of Georgia GC in Athens.
But that was followed by a bogey-riddled second round 74 yesterday.
The University of Rhode Island graduate got off to a disappointing start with a bogey on the par-four first and then dropped another shot on the par-four fourth.
He birdied the sixth (par four) but then suffered another bogey at the par-three eighth.
Sims gave himself a fighting chance of making the cut with a birdie at the four-par 13th but his hopes were dashed with further dropped strokes at the 14th (par-four) and 16th (par three).
