Top 20 finish for Sims in Tennessee

Michael Sims fired his third round of two-under-par 69 to post his second highest finish of the season on the Web.Com Tour yesterday.After an impressive third round of four-under-par 67 on Saturday at the News Sentinel Open in Knoxville, Tennessee, the 34-year-old Bermudian pocketed $7,700 as he ended the tournament in a five-way tie for 17th.Sims had missed nine successive cuts on the Tour before finally getting the chance to play over the weekend.Yesterday’s round featured three birdies and a single bogey.He had entered the final round in a tie for 14th after Saturday’s round which included four birdies, three of them on par-fives, offset by a single bogey.Sims had made only three cuts all season, his best finish a tie for ninth at he BWM Charity Classic where he won $18,000.Yesterday’s winner was Peter Mainati who shot a 65 in the final round to clinch the victory by a single shot. He picked up $550,000 in the total purse of $99,000 purse.The tournament record (23 under par) is held by Tim Conley, a multiple winner in Bermuda.
