Golf’s big hitters compete

Some of the Island’s big hitters will take to the golf course next month for the inaugural Bermuda Long Drive Championship at Riddell’s Bay Golf and Country Club. The event, on October 26, will see golfers over the age of 18 bullying the ball for bragging rights as well as prizes. An added incentive will be qualifying for the 2014 World Long Drive Championships.“This year’s event is going to be open to males over the age of 18 because it is difficult to gauge what sort of response we will get from other groups if it is opened up any further,” said a spokesperson.“Should this year be a success then next year it will be opened up to more categories.“We also have the option of next year’s event being a qualifier for the 2014 World Long Drive Championships so there is extra incentive to make this year a success.”The winner of the event will claim $750 while the runner-up will take home $250.Deadline for entries is October 18.
