Bright start for West in Stroke Play

Eric West took a surprise lead after the first round of the Bermuda Stroke Play Championships at Port Royal Golf Course yesterday.

West carded an even-par 71 to lead defending champion Jarryd Dillas by two strokes.

Johann Hunter is three strokes farther back on 76 while Spencer Wideman shot a 77.

In the women’s field, Tariqah Walikraam had a round of 81 and is leading Katyna Rabain by three strokes.

It was a different situation in the men’s senior division where, playing from the white tees, Calvin Hendrickson had a round of 74 with Colin James in second place on 79.

The second round gets under way today at 7.30am, with play concluding tomorrow.
