Defending champions in control of Bermuda Four-ball Championships

Fine start Jarryd Dillas, left, and Damian Palanyandi won by seven shots yesterday

Defending champions Jarryd Dillas and Damian Palanyandi are in pole position to retain their title after day one of the Bermuda Four-ball Championships.

After winning the title five times in the last six years, Dillas and Palanyandi were the overwhelming favourites heading into the tournament at Port Royal Golf Course this weekend, and they lived up to the billing when shooting three-under 68.

With 18 holes left to play on Sunday the duo are three shots clear of Andrew Yates and Richard Neame and James Godwin and Christopher Ford after both those teams went round in level par.

Oliver Betschart, who won the Moongate Tour Championship on Friday, is tied for sixth place with his partner Jevon Roberts.

In the Ladies’ Championship the team of Linda Down and Morgan Lightbourne hold a four-shot lead after shooting one-over 72. Kim Botelho and Alisa Sadeh are in second spot with Tracy Burgess and Ann Symonds a further shot behind on six-over.

The Senior Men’s Championship is shaping up to be the tighest of the competitions with three teams sharing the lead on six over.

Brothers Tim and Barry Brewer, Andrew Wright and Malcolm Sutherland, and Miles Stephens and Craig Christensen will all hold hopes of picking up the trophy on Sunday afternoon but they are only a shot clear of Michael McCrimmon and Gary Carr.
