Damian Palanyandi gunning for more success on Moongate Tour

Damian Palanyandi will be keen to continue his fine form on the Gosling’s Moongate Tour today.

The top amateur captured his first victory of the year on the Tour, and his fifth overall, after pipping professional Dwayne Pearman by one shot for the title in last month’s 18-hole event at Ocean View Golf Course. He will be looking to build on that success at the par-62 Five Forts Golf Course in St George’s.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank Chaka and Andrew [Tour co-founders and organisers Chaka DeSilva and Andrew Trott-Francis] for all their hard work and dedication for setting up this tour, where amateurs and professionals can compete alongside each other all year round,” Palanyandi told The Royal Gazette.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to play Five Forts again. It’s a place that I hold dear to my heart as I grew up very close to the old No 1, where my dad and I spent thousands of hours hitting balls into the sunset.

“I don’t have any expectations going into the event as I haven’t been playing much, but will try my best and take it one shot at a time.”

Also expected to be in the hunt for honours along with Palanyandi is fellow amateur Kenny Leseur, but last year’s Tour Championship winner Oliver Betschart, Jarryd Dillas and professionals Pearman and DeSilva are among the notable absentees from the field.

The Gosling’s Moongate Tour is making its debut at Five Forts with tournaments previously held at Port Royal Golf Course, Belmont Hills Golf Club and Ocean View.

“Exciting to be at Five Forts and this is our first time,” DeSilva said. “We are really appreciative of Five Forts.

“They have worked with us to make it financially viable for our players to come down there, and we appreciate that from their staff and management.”
