Damian Palanyandi romps to Moongate Tour glory
Damian Palanyandi had plenty to smile about after savouring his first win on the Gosling’s Moongate Tour this year.
The top amateur carded an impressive two-under 68, which included seven birdies, a bogey and a triple bogey, to win the 18-hole event at Belmont Hills Golf Club by two shots on Saturday.
“I’m happy to get another Moongate win,” Palanyandi told The Royal Gazette.
“Apart from the sloppy triple on the 5th, I think I played pretty well. I hit 16 greens and rolled in seven birdies.”
Chris Smith finished runner-up and also topped the professional field with an even-par 70, which contained four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey.
Fellow professional and last year’s Order or Merit winner Dwayne Pearman rounded off the podium finishers in third, a farther shot back.
Fast-improving amateur Roger Brangman also produced an impressive display, shooting 75 to finish fifth among the formidable field.
