Oliver Betschart tied for lead at Junior Optimist Championship
Oliver Betschart is tied for the lead with one round to play at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships.
The Bermuda teenager is level at the top of the leaderboard at two under, alongside Americans Kaden Frierson and Rowan Banning, after rounds of 70 and 71 at Trump National Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida.
Betschart, competing in the boys 16 to 18 age group, followed a round of 70 at Doral’s Golden Palm on Sunday with a round of 71 on the Blue Monster on Monday, The Bermuda golfer recovered from a bogey at the par-3 4th hole with birdies at the 6th and 8th before playing his final ten holes in even par.
The young golfer is one of just five players to be under par after the first two rounds, with the final round also played on the Blue Monster course on Tuesday.
Sienna Mosquera, who won a bronze medal at the Island Games last week, headed straight to the US to compete in the girls 15 to 18 division and performed with credit to finish tied for eighteenth.
Mosquera finished at 12 over after rounds of 81 and 75, with only Paloma Ibarra Ambia, from Mexico, completing the 36-hole tournament under par.
Away from the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, Arman Newton, Johnny Bart, Darina Betschart and Lewis MacFarlane played their practice round at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships today
