Johnny Bart targets solid finish in New Brunswick
Johnny Bart hopes to sign off on a positive note in the final round of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship today at Gowan Brae Golf Club in Bathurst, New Brunswick.
The Bermudian is 73rd among the 156 players in the juvenile boys division at 14-over, 224 with 18 holes left to play at the 6,679-yard par-72 course.
Bart endured fluctuating fortunes on the way to carding a seven-over 77 in the penultimate round yesterday, which included two birdies, five bogeys and two doubles.
The promising player had plenty cause for optimism at the start of his round having made the 36-hole cut at seven over the previous day.
Bart was fortunate to have completed his second round on Wednesday because play was suspended owing to inclement weather, forcing many to complete their rounds the next day.
“The first two days had a lot of highs and lows,” Bart told The Royal Gazette.
“This whole experience has been surreal, and I’m grateful that I get to compete against the best in the country.
“The first day was a battle, but I was able to save the round to finish with a decent score.
“The second day was really smooth and felt easy until the last three holes. I collapsed, leading to me going from well inside the cut line to finishing right on it.
“I’m excited that I get two more rounds at this course, as I know if I put everything together I can go deep.”
Bart arrived in Canada fresh from representing Bermuda at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships in Puerto Rico, where he finished thirteenth in the boys’ 18-and-under division.
Dawson Lew, from Ontario, holds a four-shot advantage heading into the final round.
