Dwayne Pearman has been granted honorary lifetime membership at Port Royal Golf Course in recognition of his decades of dedication and numerous achievements in the sport.

The highly decorated professional had the honour bestowed upon him by fellow professional Stephen Lambert Jr during a presentation ceremony at Port Royal attended by the facility’s board of trustees, golfers, family and friends.

“It is my distinct honour to present a lifetime membership to Dwayne Pearman, a man whose name is synonymous with Bermuda Golf and whose influence on our game and our community cannot be overstated,” Lambert said.

“Dwayne’s journey in golf has been defined by excellence, resilience and generosity. From his early days as a teaching professional at Ocean View Golf Course in the 1990s, he shaped future talent mentoring players such as Daniel Augustus, Justin Madeiros, Terrance Daniels and myself. His guidance extended far beyond the golf swing; he inspired belief, discipline, and a respect for the game.”

In 2009, Pearman became head golf professional at Port Royal, where he was instrumental in the formation of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which thrust the Southampton golf course into the international spotlight.

As a player, he has won numerous titles both here and abroad throughout a sparkling career spanning more than three decades, including two Bermuda Open titles, a Jamaican Open Senior Championship title, three Johnny Walker titles and a Gosling’s Invitational title. The reigning Gosling’s Moongate Tour Order of Merit champion has also teed up alongside some of the world’s best in the PGA Tour Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal.

Lambert said Pearman’s greatest legacy perhaps lies in his unwavering commitment in grooming the next generation of golfers.

“Dwayne has built and sustained junior golf programmes that opened doors for countless young Bermudians, giving them the skills, discipline and confidence to thrive both in golf and in life. He has also been a mentor and role model for professionals and amateurs alike, always willing to share his time, knowledge and encouragement,” he said.

“Dwayne has championed inclusivity, ensuring that golf is not seen as a game for a few, but as an opportunity for all. His belief that the game belongs to everyone has shaped the culture of this club, and of golf across our island.”

Pearman is both honoured and humbled to have received the recognition.

“It was amazing because that's where it all started for me 55 years ago,” he said.

“Port Royal has been my home for many years and everyone up there has always been friendly to me and treated me good.

“It was really nice for all my family and friends to come out and enjoy that moment with me, and I thank the board of trustees and golf professionals Stephen Lambert Jr, Andrew Trott-Francis and Andrew Trott for making that happen for me.”
