Kenny Leseur savours maiden win as a professional
The fourth round of the Gosling’s Moongate Tour turned out to be a truly special occasion for Kenny Leseur, who picked up his first win as a professional at Five Forts Golf Club yesterday.
Leseur shot a one-under 60 to finish two shots clear of the field for his first win since joining the paid ranks after capturing a maiden Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship title in April.
He carded a pair of birdies and bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at even par.
Even better fortunes awaited the player on the stroll coming in as he rattled in three more birdies and a bogey to replace clubhouse leader and fellow professional Dwayne Pearman at the summit.
Fresh from representing Bermuda at the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay, amateur Oliver Betschart finished runner-up with 63. His round included two birdies, five bogeys and a brilliant ace at the short par-three 14th hole.
“A hole-in-one is arguably the best feeling in golf,” Betschart told The Royal Gazette.
“Right before I hit, I asked my sister [Darina] who is caddying for me if she thinks this is the right club, and she said ‘for sure, trust it’, and I did.
“This is my fourth hole-in-one and my first one in competition. ”I am glad that I’m still underage and don’t have a hefty bar tab.“
Order of Merit champion Pearman shot 65 to finish third.
“My round was all right, a little up and down,” he said.
“A couple of holes I overshot the runaway. But outside of that I didn’t play bad. I hit the ball good but just didn’t really score like I would’ve liked to have done.”
Amateur Adam Perry and professional duo Nick Jones and Quinton Sherlock Jr carded 66 to finish tied for fourth.
