‘Wrong Hole’ find right holes to prevail in thriller
Wrong Hole came out on top of a closely fought Bermuda Golf Association Team Challenge at Port Royal Golf Course on Saturday.
The victorious team, comprised of Padraig Mulry, Nathan Clarke, Calum Smith and Mike Jones, claimed honours by a solitary point over rivals TOALers (Richard O'Connell, Rory Worrall, Richard Hinwood, Kenneth Vevers) and Screaming Eagles (Jimmy Caplice, Kevin Ronaldson, Dermot O'Sullivan, Nicholas Barrett), who both finished with 86 points.
A new champion was guaranteed heading into the event as last year’s winners Fantastic Fore (Sue Maisonneuve, Angela Cook, Sarah Murphy-Christopher, Elaine Gaugain) did not return to defend their title this year.
The BGA’s season-opener is a team handicap stroke-play competition consisting of teams of four players using the Stableford scoring system, with the score of two balls to count. Teams may be comprised of four players regardless of gender, age or handicap.
Prizes were also awarded for longest drive and closest-to-the-pin competitions.
David Soutter, Morgan Lightbourne and Zach McGuire won the men’s, women’s and junior’s longest drive competitions, while Richard O’Connell and Cindy Ratziaff took home the men’s and women’s closest-to-the-pin prizes.
There was no closest-to-the-pin competition held for junior golfers.
The next event on the BGA calendar is the Mixed Foursomes Championship, which will take place at Turtle Hill Golf Club October 4-5.
