Kenny Leseur prepares to defend Moongate Tour title
Kenny Leseur will begin the defence of his Moongate Tour title in the opening medal event at Port Royal Golf Course today.
The professional was a model of consistency in the last year after picking up one win and finishing in the top three in every event in which he competed to pip defending champion Dwayne Pearman for the title by 50 points.
Leseur has tapered his expectations heading into today’s event but still has his sights on retaining his title.
“I look forward to the Moongate Tour season,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“I haven’t done too much in the winter and haven’t played since the Bermuda Goodwill Tournament, but I look forward to this year and playing alongside everyone.
“I don’t have too many expectations for the first event but will definitely be focused throughout the season on trying to win again.”
Leseur is competing among a formidable field that also includes past Tour champions Scott Roy and Pearman and last year’s Moongate Tour Championship winner Daniel Augustus .
“I have no expectations going in that would be crippling in any situation,” Augustus said. “It’s just another round of golf with familiar faces.”
The professional has also been inactive since finishing runner-up in his division in the Bermuda Goodwill Tournament.
“I haven’t been practising as much as I normally do because I’m working to save up so I can play overseas, so form goes out the window,” he said.
“There hasn’t been a tournament since the Goodwill on the island so form isn’t a factor. Whether I shot 10 over or 10 under the last time I played is irrelevant.”
Also among the field is two-times Moongate Tour Championship winner Oliver Betschart, who represented Bermuda at this month’s Latin American Amateur Championship in Peru, fellow top amateurs Jarryd Dillas and Jevon Roberts, and professionals Nick Jones, Chris Smith and Chaka DeSilva.
