Daniel Augustus is keeping his feet planted firmly on the ground heading into this week’s Clutch Tour Tier 2 Championship in Surrey, England.

The Ocean View professional refuses to burden himself with expectations and will be playing in unfamiliar territory in the 36-hole tournament at the Clandon Regis Golf Club in Guildford.

“I have no expectations this week,” Augustus told The Royal Gazette.

“I haven’t played the course yet; I play my practise round tomorrow [Tuesday] so I will know how to map it out after my round.

“I have been looking at it online. But seeing it first hand makes a difference on approach because firmness of the course makes a difference.”

The 39-year-old is making his second straight appearance on the Clutch Tour scene after finishing 63rd among the 70-strong field last week’s Clutch Pro Tour Championship in Hexham.

Augustus made a rocky start to the tournament after shooting 84 in the opening round, which included three double bogeys.

However, he managed to steady the ship with a respectable 75 in the second round and fared even better on the last day of the championship featuring the top 100 players on the Clutch Pro Tour Order of Merit.

Augustus has identified the areas he needs to improve on and feels his game is in a good place heading into this week’s event in Surrey.

“Last week gave a great outline on what I needed to work on these past few days and my game is getting stronger,” he said.

The past Bermuda Open champion arrived in England with his confidence soaring high after securing his spot in next year’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course and going wire-to-wire to win the Johnnie Walker Classic for the second time at his home golf course.

The Clutch Tour Tier 2 Championship will take place on Wednesday and Thursday.
