Gymnasts shine in Canada competition
Some of Bermuda’s young gymnasts have returned to the island with medals won at the Burlington Spring Cup in Ontario, Canada, last weekend.
The Bermuda Gymnastics Association sent 11 gymnasts to the event, with Maddie Pritchard and Emma Wright both winning the all-around competitions at different levels.
Pritchard, who at the age of 8 was the youngest competitor at gold level, produced a clean sweep by winning every apparatus for a total score of 34.775.
Emma Wright won on the beam and floor on her way to a total score of 38.25 to win the all-around competition in her age group at bronze level. Satya Tuzo-Smith, aged 7, (37.125) finished in second place and came out on top in the beam competition.
Jodie Denton (36.225) also competed at bronze level and finished ninth in her age group, with her best performances coming when seventh on beam and floor.
There were six gymnasts competing alongside Pritchard at gold level with Samantha Tolosa faring best of the rest finishing in fifth in the all-around competition with 35.775 points.
Tolosa finished one place in front of Fallon Wooley (34.1), with Nicole Burrows (33.85), Sadie Hocking (32.275), Mckenna Radcliffe (32.225) and Elise Leamey (30.8) also competing in their respective age groups.
Eva Wright, aged 12, was Bermuda’s only representative at Level 6 and she finished tenth in the all-around competition with a best finishing position of fifth on floor.
Many of these gymnasts will be in action next in the Bermuda National Championships, which will be held at the Bermuda Gymnastics Association in St David’s on May 17.
