Youngsters shine at National Gymnastics Championships

More than 30 young athletes aged between 5 and 14 competed in the Bermuda National Gymnastics Championships on Sunday.

The excitement began at 9am with bronze and silver level gymnasts from Bermuda Gymnastics and Quality Gymnastics vying for the top spots.

Evelyn Howarth (BGA), aged 8, came out as the Bermuda national bronze-level all-around champion with a score of 38. She also claimed first place on the floor with a score of 9.65 and finished second on vault (9.6), third on bars (9.3 tie) and balance beam. (9.45 tie)

Satya Tuzo-Smith (BGA), aged 7, finished second all around with a score of 37.85. She finished runner-up on floor (9.6 tie), third on vault (9.5), uneven bars (9.3 tie) and balance beam (9.3 tie).

Jodie Denton, aged 8, finished third with a score of 37.6. Finishing second on beam (9.5) and third on floor (9.55) were her event highlight.

Indigo Kemp, aged 8, clinched individual national event titles with first place on both vault (9.70) and uneven bars (9.55).

Emma Wright claimed the individual balance beam title (9.7). Raelyn Robinson, aged 7, finished second on uneven bars (9.45) and floor (9.6 tie)

Honourable mentions at bronze level were given to Finley Gilmar, Abigail Livingston, Olivia Simons, Arianna Whyte, and Freya Morgan from Bermuda Gymnastics Association)

Tyla Foote (QG), aged 8, took home the silver level national all-around title with a score of 36.85. She also claimed the individual event titles on vault (9.3) and beam (9.1), while finishing second on uneven bars (9.45) and floor (9.0)

Ty-Leah Trott (QG), aged 7, finished second all around with a score of 36.6. She was third on vault (9.0), second on beam (9.0) and claimed individual event titles on bars (9.5) and floor (9.1).

Lily Hall (QG), aged 11, finished third all around on 35.75. She placed second on vault (9.1 tie) and third on bars.

Notable performances at silver level came from Jasmyne Walters (QG), aged 10, who was second on vault (9.1 tie) and Mia Dunley-Owen (QG), who was second on vault (9.1 tie) and third on beam (8.8).

Courtney Burgess (QG), aged 8, was third on vault (9.0 tie), while Georgia Rose (BGA), aged 10, finished third on both balance beam (8.8 tie) and floor (8.95). Gemma Vickers (QG), aged 10, also received an honourable mention.

At gold level, Sofia Cooper (QG), aged 9, secured top spot in the all-around title with a score of 37.05. She also finished first on floor (9.55) and second on vault (9.3) and uneven bars (9.15).

Ashanti-Sarai Darko (QG), aged 11, finished runner-up on 37. She claimed individual national titles on vault (9.45) and balance beam (9.35).

Samantha Tolosa (BGA), aged 10, was third in the all-around on 36.8. She finished first on uneven bars (9.25) and third on floor (9.45).

Isobel Stones (BGA), aged 11, finished third on vault (9.25) and beam (9.15) and second on floor exercise (9.5). Nicole Burrows (BGA), aged 14, was second on beam (9.3) and Fallow Wooley (BGA), aged 13, finished third on bars (9.1).

Honourable mentions were given to Eleanor Garcia (QG), Maddie Pritchard (BGA), Annie Archibald (QG), Nea Fosker (BGA), Sadie Hocking (BGA) and McKenna Redcliffe (BGA).

At Level 6, Eva Wright (BGA), aged 12, claimed the national all around championship with a score of 36.35. She also won the bar title with a score of 8.75 and finished runner-up on vault (8.9), beam (9.2) and floor (9.5).

Cassie Mayers (BGA), aged 11, finished just a tenth behind her team-mate to claim second with an all-around score of 36.25. She claimed national titles on vault (8.95), balance beam (9.6) and floor (9.6), while finishing 2nd on bars with an 8.1.
