Bermuda Hospitals Board staff are visiting a number of overseas hospitals to pick up tips as they continue to oversee the redevelopment of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.Media reports in the UK say health teams from Bermuda were recently at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire to check out a multimillion dollar redevelopment.A BHB spokeswoman explained: “To ensure a smooth, safe and efficient transfer of hospital services to the new facility in 2014, BHB has planned and budgeted for a small number of overseas visits that allow BHB staff in key areas to visit other health jurisdictions.“BHB sees such study visits as a vital way to maintain the safety of services and quality of care during the transition to the new acute care building in 2014.“During this particular visit, staff from BHB’s Organisational Development, Hotel Services and Estates Departments visited hospitals in the UK.“They had the opportunity to discover the lessons learned from hospitals who have successfully transferred healthcare operations to a new facility.”The Sentinel newspaper in Staffordshire reported local hospital chief executive Julia Bridgewater saying: “The executives from Bermuda wanted to look at our new hospital and share lessons learned.“They are partway through a development programme with their new hospital due to open in 2014.”
