Survey finds 55% of HIP/Future Care customers say it is ‘affordable’

The results of a recent HIP/Future Care Customer Survey found that more than half of the respondents “either strongly agreed or agreed that the Future Care Premium is affordable”.Junior Minister of Health and Seniors, Senator Lynne Woolridge said yesterday that “upwards of 55 percent of those surveyed agreed that the health insurance scheme provides value for money”.And more that 87 percent of customers in 2012 were satisfied with customer service, “which was slight decrease in overall satisfaction from the previous year,” she said. But the latest figure is “still a 12.54 percent increase from 2010”.The survey was conducted from January through to the end of February to get a better understanding of policyholders from both HIP and FutureCare.There were 827 respondents or just over 12 percent of the total number of HIP and FutureCare policy holders.Of the 3,641 persons enrolled on HIP, a total of 268 participants responded to the survey, five participants did not specify what type of policy holder they were.Sen Woolridge noted that more than 85 percent of customers were pleased with the availability of staff in 2012.That figure is up by 25 percent when compared to 2010. Additionally, 85 percent of customers in 2012 said the quality of information provided to customers were either “excellent or good”.“This was virtually the same as last year, but a 21.89 percent increase compared to 2010,” she said. “An overwhelming 90.09 percent of respondents believed they were given courtesy and respect, up 15.37 percent from 2010.”She also noted that doctors who asked for full payment before providing treatment dropped 28.87 percent from last year and amounted to 16.6 percent.And 73 percent of customers “would recommend HIP/FutureCare to others.Sen Woolridge also announced the two winners of the random draw for those who participated in the survey who received $100 vouchers for food and fuel.They were Leslene Somersall, a HIP policyholder and FutureCare policy holder Emily Howes.
