Breast cancer conference open to public
A major international conference on breast cancer that will be open to the public will be held at the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall this morning.Dr Francia Arena will be the moderator for the panel discussion which is part of the Pink Conference on breast cancer. The Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at New York University was introduced to the media at a press conference yesterday, hosted by Mayor of Hamilton Graeme Outerbridge. Also on hand was Health Minister Patricia Gordon Pamplin who welcomed the conference to Bermuda. She noted that the doctors involved will also share their knowledge with doctors at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.“Bermuda is quite geographically amenable to hosting such conferences, and I am very pleased to know that historically this particular type of conference would have been held on the west coast,” she said.Dr Arena is the director of the NYU Langone Arena Oncology Centre in Lake Success, New York.He stressed the main goal will be to share the latest information and knowledge on cancer with Bermuda.“This is the perfect example of what I hope will be the first of many of these occasions in which those that are ravaged by the fear of breast cancer and those who are suffering through it and hopefully some day will survive from it; can come and get the information from physicians from Harvard Medical School, Cornell Medical School, NYU, and others, so that we can hopefully answer and interact.”The conference is open to the public and free and will be held from 10.30am to 12pm.
