A lottery could pay for hospital

July 16, 2013Dear Sir,It is my understanding that we need to raise a great deal more money to get our hospital paid for. Might I, at the risk of causing the pious to be indignant, suggest that we have a national lottery just for the fund raising for the hospital. There would be no need to create a big lottery board, but just sell the tickets at the post office which is underused and then once the hospital is paid for we could choose another charity to raise money for. Those who think gambling is sinful should bear in mind that life is a gamble. We could go crashing into the sun with a slight shift of gravity or be hit by a tsunami if the rock in the Canary Islands falls into the sea. While I don’t choose to get into religious arguments with the fundamentalists over the evils of games of chance, I would think doing good for the community would be far more worthwhile than bleating on about the evils of buying a ticket. Sincerely,COMMUNITY GAMBLER
