Gov.bm to be replaced

Plans are underway to replace the existing Government web portal with a more modern software platform to upgrade content management and increase accessibility.Information Services Minister Michael Scott said funding will be phased to ensure Government’s “commitment to problem solving and sure steady progress”.Commenting on two Throne Speech initiatives announced on Friday, the Minister also said “voice and data networks” will be consolidated to “unify Government’s telephone system”.“This will eliminate the need, in many cases, for desktop telephones. It will also improve internal and external Government communications and reduce operating expenses of managing voice services,” said Mr Scott.Mr Scott is also the Minister responsible for Government Estates. On that side of his Ministry he noted that “Requests for Proposals” will be issued to “attract exciting major construction and reconstruction projects using the private-public partnership financing model”.The buildings include the old Hamilton Police Station, the Marsh Folly Plant, the Old Cottage Hospital and the current home of the Supreme Court at 81 Front Street in Hamilton.“There is active interest in and serious enquiries already made into the old Hamilton Police Station site. Also, serious enquiries have been made into the Marsh Folly site,” he said.Invitations will be sent to potential developers once specific needs and requirements have been set out. The Minister noted that proposals for major construction projects “will create much needed jobs in the Bermuda construction marketplace”.
