A free event promoting wellness is to take place at the Botanical Gardens later this month .

The Department of Health is staging Celebrating Wellness on September 27, from 5pm to 8pm, with various food vendors, informational booths, screenings and sports games.

The department has partnered with Xtreme sports to bring games for families to compete in friendly physical competition.

The family games will start at 5.30pm and teams will compete in a series of stations set up within the show ring.

For shows of teamwork within the family, points will be awarded and counted to determine the top three winners at the events conclusion. Prizes will also be awarded for the best dressed team and most creative team name.

Each team must have five family members, with two of them being between the ages of five and 17. Team members can extend to aunts, cousins and godparents.

A spokesperson for the event said: “As this is a physical activity, individuals are recommended to check with their healthcare provider to assure they are fit to compete as the event organisers are not liable for any injury, damage or loss.
