‘Urgent’ appeal for people to give blood

The Bermuda Hospitals Board has issued an “urgent call” for people to give blood.

The BHB said all blood types were needed, with donors and potential donors asked to make an appointment.

Anyone willing to donate but unsure about their blood type can call the blood donor centre at 236-5067, e-mail blood.donor@bhb.bm or message via WhatsApp at 533-9553.

The BHB said that although appointments were preferred, walk-ins were accepted.

The blood donor centre in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is open from Monday through Thursday from 8.30am to 2.30pm and on Fridays from 8.30am to 1pm.

The centre thanked the community for assisting to ensure they can continue to save lives.

The BHB said Britain’s blood donation rule associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans had been lifted — making it possible for people who were previously ineligible to donate.
