BHB offers training in resuscitation

Saving lives: the Bermuda Hospitals Board is an international training centre for CPR (File photograph)

Residents are invited to attend a cardiopulmonary resuscitation course organised by the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

Kelly Pitcher, a BHB nurse who will be carrying out the training, said: “Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, and the victim could be someone you know and love. More lives can be saved if more people know CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator, commonly called an AED.”

The BHB is an international training centre of the American Heart Association and all CPR courses follow AHA guidelines and standards.

Ms Pitcher said: “We’re pleased to support the American Heart Association and its important mission to increase survival from cardiac arrest. We’re asking all members within our community to learn the lifesaving skills of hands-only CPR.”

The course will cost $25 to cover a booklet and materials. Training takes approximately two hours and is done to music. Stretchers will be made available for those participants unable to kneel on the floor.

The course will be held on the weekends of August 16 and 17, and September 13 and 14. Three sessions will be offered on each day at 8.30am, 11am and 3.30pm.

To register, call 239-1821 or e-mail coursereg@bhb.bm stating the time and date you would like to attend. The course is not appropriate for clinicians
