Diabetes centre boosts community outreach

Diabetes association intern Jolie Davis, left, with marketing and community relations co-ordinator Francesca Wyatt and executive director Lori Rockhead

A charity dealing with one of the island’s top chronic diseases aims to spread the word through two new hires.

The Bermuda Diabetes Association has welcomed Francesca Wyatt as its marketing and community relations co-ordinator along with Jolie Davis as a summer intern.

Ms Wyatt, who has a decade of experience in communications, is to support its programmes and services while raising awareness of diabetes prevention and management.

Ms Davis, a neuroscience student at the University of Manchester, who plans to pursue medicine, will assist with data analysis projects while shadowing health professionals and adding to the association’s community outreach efforts.

Lori Rockhead, the executive director of the Bermuda Diabetes Association, said: “To welcome not one, but two enthusiastic new faces is a real boost to our team and mission.

“This year, we’re focused on expanding our diabetes programmes including workshops on mental health and managing the challenges of type 1 diabetes, health screenings for prediabetes and continuing professional development for health practitioners, while also promoting our BDA community pharmacy — a valuable resource open to the public, not just those living with diabetes.”
