A new digital system helps doctors and the Department of Health easily exchange data.

A spokeswoman said department staff were introduced to the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources interface, with support from the Pan-American Health Organisation, during a two-day workshop.

She explained: “The FIHR interface strengthens Bermuda’s electronic immunisation registry, assisting private physicians and the Department of Health to exchange data more smoothly and improving the accuracy of the island’s health records — Bermuda is the first country in the region to launch this system.”

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “This new system is about making healthcare easier and smarter.

“When doctors and clinics can securely share up-to-date information, it means less paperwork, more time for patients and stronger protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.

“It’s a proud step forward for Bermuda’s health system and for the families we serve.”

Developers, private healthcare providers and staff from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital took part in the workshop and Omni medical was the first facility to use the interface.
