Health workshop offers treatment options for nerve pain

Residents have been invited to attend a free workshop this weekend to learn more about alternative treatments for nerve pain.

The event will be held tomorrow from 1pm to 5.30pm and on Sunday from 9.30am at InTouch Therapy, based at 45 King Street.

It will be held under the theme “From Numbness to Relief: A New Approach to Treating Nerve Pain”.

The workshop will be hosted by Tanaeya Burch, a physiotherapist and lymphoedema expert.

She said it will be open to anyone who experiences neuropathy symptoms — whether diabetic, chemotherapy-induced or idiopathic in nature.

Dr Burch added: “At InTouch Therapy, our mission has always been to help people regain mobility, independence and quality of life through evidence-based, compassionate care.”

The clinic recently incorporated regenerative stimulation therapy into its practice.

Dr Burch said: “This advanced treatment uses pulsed radio-frequency energy to promote nerve regeneration, reduce pain, restore sensation and improve function.

“Unlike conventional pharmacological management, this therapy directly addresses the impaired nerve pathways, supporting the body’s natural ability to repair and rewire.”

She said enhanced research has called into question the long-term reliance on medications such as Gabapentin for neuropathy management.

Recent studies suggested that extended Gabapentin use may be associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia, Dr Burch added.

She said that for patients already navigating the challenges of diabetes or cancer recovery, such risks add to an “already complex burden”.

Dr Burch said by offering a non-pharmacological, non-invasive option, the clinic can collectively provide patients with new hope and a pathway to improved daily living — one that emphasises safety, independence and long-term wellness.

“Our goal is not to replace any vital care provided on the island, but to complement it — ensuring patients have access to all available avenues for relief and functional restoration,” she added.
