Grocers warned of a corn dog, sausage recall over wood pieces
About 58 million pounds worth of corn dog and sausage products have been recalled over wood shaving contamination, the Ministry of Health has warned.
The recalled items were produced and packaged by the Hillshire Brands Company, based in Haltom City, Texas, between March 17 and September 26 of this year.
The affected products come from the brands Jimmy Dean, State Fair and Fresh To You, as well as an unbranded food service associated with the Hillshire Brands Company.
The warning came after the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service warned that affected products may contain pieces of wood in the batter.
Ingestion of wood fragment, the service warned, could pose a choking hazard or lead to injuries.
The ministry recommended the public check their freezers for corn dog and sausage-on-a-stick products with the establishment numbers EST-582, P-894 and EST. 47991.
Those who have purchased these products were urged not to consume them and instead discard them or return them to where they were purchased.
Anyone with questions about the recall can call Christina Self, The Hillshire Brands Company’s associate director of customer care, on 888-747-7611.
