Mental health conference set for this week
A two-day conference this week will centre on balancing life and mind in a fast-paced world.
The event, organised by the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation, will be held virtually tomorrow and at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Thursday.
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, is one of more than 30 people — including counsellors, nurses and those facing mental health challenges — scheduled to speak.
James McDonald, the chairman of the BMHF, said: “This conference is more than a gathering — it’s a movement.
“We are bringing the best minds together to help our community navigate life’s challenges, promote healing and transform how we think about mental wellness.
“We invite everyone to attend, engage and be part of something truly impactful.”
The first day of the conference, titled Healing and Implementation — set to run from 11am to 3.45pm with a 30-minute lunch break — will explore topics such as mental health rights, parenting challenges and work carried out by the Youth Advisory Board.
Ms Wilson will deliver the opening address on the conference’s second day, From Awareness to Action, starting at 10.20am on Thursday.
Attendees can then learn about how different generations cope with anxiety, grieving in a fast-paced world and mental health in the workplace.
In-person panels will take place between 10.45am and 3.45pm and will be followed by a 15-minute closing address. Attendees can network and interact with vendors between 1pm and 2pm.
Those who register by 2pm today can receive a lunch wristband for the catered lunch service on Thursday.
CariGenetics will offer 50 free Meds4You tests during the Thursday conference.
The tests will be personalised to the user’s DNA and offer insights into which medications would have different effects on them.
