Bermuda joins global day of cancer solidarity
A global observance of World Cancer Day will be marked tomorrow by Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre in solidarity with all those affected by the disease — and to reaffirm the “shared responsibility to ensure that cancer care is accessible to everyone”.
Chris Fosker, the organisation’s chief executive and medical director, said the day stood for more than raising awareness.
He added: “It is about recognising the humanity in every patient and ensuring that care is delivered in a way that honours their lived experience, their dignity and their place in our community.”
The observance, formally established in 2000, is led by the Union for International Cancer Control.
The 2025-27 theme of “United by Unique” highlights people-centred cancer care and the human lives behind health statistics
BCHC said that each day, visitors from “every corner of the island and from every walk of life” come through its doors bringing their worries, hopes, questions and courage.
The organisation provides prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment services to patients and families.
BCHC will mark the day with awareness displays on-site and by taking to its website and social media channels to share educational resources.
Dr Fosker said: “World Cancer Day gives us a moment to pause, but more importantly it renews our commitment to ensure that every person in Bermuda knows BCHC is here for them, openly, fully and without barriers.
“Cancer care should never feel out of reach.”
