The Bermuda Hospitals Board plans to change the name of the hospital’s acute inpatient care unit at the request of the donor.

A spokeswoman said on Tuesday that the Ascendant Partner Re unit in the hospital’s Acute Care Wing will be renamed the Belco Partner Re unit.

Scott Pearman, BHB president and chief executive, said: “We are extremely grateful to our many donors who provide extremely generous and valuable support to BHB.

“Changing names of a donor whose name is on a unit or area is not something that can be done quickly, and there is a cost.

“We therefore are using this opportunity not only to advise the community of this change, but also to ensure there are no other requests pending.”

Ascendant was the name of the parent company of Belco before the company was taken over by Canadian energy company Algonquin.
