BHB offers free screenings for World Kidney Day

The Bermuda Hospitals Board is offering free health screenings to residents as part of World Kidney Day observances on March 12.

It raises awareness of renal health and the growing impact of kidney disease in Bermuda.

To support early detection and education, clinical staff from the Dr Beresford Swan Dialysis Unit will speak with attendees about maintaining healthy kidney function.

They will offer free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings and explain the results.

The BHB said chronic kidney disease is a significant and increasing health concern.

Hypertension and diabetes — two leading causes of kidney disease worldwide — are especially common within the community.

Since early-stage kidney disease often presents no symptoms, many people may be unaware they are at risk.

The BHB also invited the public to take part in a free 30-minute walk at the Botanical Gardens on March 10.

The Dialysis Unit will host the walk from noon inside the Berry Hill Road entrance of the park.

Participants are encouraged to check the BHB’s Facebook page for weather-related updates.
