Supermarket charity day raises nearly $28,000 for diabetes care
A competitive walk and run this spring brought in nearly $28,000 for the cause of diabetes care.
The 2026 Lindo’s to Lindo’s in March featured 1,129 participants, who travelled from the supermarket’s Warwick location to its Devonshire outlet.
Zach Moniz, Lindo’s manager, said the annual event always raked in thousands in donations — and this year was no different.
He said: “More than a quarter of a century and hundreds of thousands of dollars later, we’re so pleased to see that this event still brings out the best of our community.
“We’re proud to have raised almost $28,000 this year for the Bermuda Diabetes Association and we look forward to continuing to support their mission of reducing the prevalence of diabetes and improving the lives of all people affected by the condition.”
The event involved a 10-kilometre competitive run, a four-mile competitive walk and a four-mile fun walk.
Lindo’s to Lindo’s was organised with the help of the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Club and other businesses. The final tally was $27,730.62.
Diabetes affects approximately one in every eight adults in Bermuda, with the same number estimated to be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The BDA last year screened 423 individuals through its community health programmes to identify risk factors and support early intervention.
Lori Rockhead, executive director of the Bermuda Diabetes Association, said Lindo’s to Lindo’s played “a vital role” in funding the group’s charitable outreach.
She added: “The funds raised directly support our free health screenings, educational programmes and outreach initiatives, enabling us to improve access to care and empower more people to take charge of their health.”
