Practical approaches to recognising sleep disorders were among topics discussed at a forum for healthcare professionals this month.

The event, presented by Mass General Brigham, brought together more than 60 healthcare professionals with experts from the Massachusetts-based healthcare system to discuss sleep health across all ages.

Presenters at the forum, which was held at the Bermuda Underwater Education Institute, discussed when treatment or specialist referral may be needed to address conditions.

“It was a pleasure to connect with Bermuda’s healthcare community and work alongside local providers to share our experience and tools for recognising and treating sleep disorders,” said James Mojica, a clinical director at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr Mojica added: “Opportunities like this allow us to exchange knowledge, share the latest advances in sleep medicine and empower local clinicians with useful tools to support their patients.”

Kimberly Foley, a consultant pulmonologist and owner of The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda, said the practical discussions were “particularly enlightening”.

She added: “It was really useful to hear directly from specialists in sleep medicine and to bring that knowledge back to our local practice.”
