Women’s ‘B’ DivisionThere were goals aplenty in the Women’s ‘B’ Division over the weekend with 20 scored in four games that also included four shut-outs.Budgies were the biggest winners at the North Field of the National Sports Centre as they beat Canaries/Longtails 9-0 thanks to hat-tricks form Melanie Fullerton and Amy Fox.The young Longtail/Canaries team managed to keep the score to a respectable 2-0 before half-time with Fox scoring two of her three goals. But a goal from Jaselle Smith in the opening minutes of the second half started the rout with Fullerton taking centre stage.Asha Trott and Alex Francis netted a goal apiece while Fox finished off what she started.Smith is the leading goalscorer in the division with 11 while Fullerton is hot on her heels with ten following her hat-trick.Wildcats also enjoyed a goal spree, getting five from five different scorers to beat Swallows 5-0.With Swallows only able to field nine players, Wildcats took advantage and set the tone with an early goal by Maria Pichery. Ashley Steede scored a second from a short corner in the 26th minute.Second-half goals from Susanna Almeida, Zina Jones and Cerepha Bridgman were more than enough to secure a comfortable win.Bluebirds got a relatively straightforward win over Canaries, 3-0.A first-half goal from Denise O’Donoghue pushed the side on while Kourtney Fassler and Sarah Smith netted a goal each in the second half to settle the match as a contest.Ravens capped off the weekend with a 3-0 win over Cardinals.Ravens set the pace from the outset with the ball staying mainly in their attacking half for the first 20 minutes.A solid Cardinals defence proved frustrating until Georgia Harris was able to convert from a penalty corner in the 25th minute. Katie Tester scored a field goal one minute before half-time to double the lead.Cardinals came out fighting in the second half with their young forward Pier Simons causing some headaches for Ravens defence and they came close to scoring when a shot beat the keeper only for Sue Ward to clear off the line.Harris scored her second of the day in the 51st minute to seal the victory.
