Bermuda to host CAC Games hockey qualifiers

The Bermuda Hockey Federation has announced that the island will host the Central American and Caribbean Games qualifying tournament over the Easter weekend in April.

Bermuda will entertain five international teams at the National Sports Centre from April 14 to 17 when it is expected that “exceptional standards of hockey” will be on display, with the men’s and women’s national teams in the thick of the action.

The visiting countries will be Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Guyana, the latter who will field a women’s team only.

“The BHF is a dynamic organisation driven to provide a supportive and positive influence on all members in and around the hockey community,” a spokesman said in a statement. “Reaching ages from 4 to senior level, we strive to provide a fun learning and playing environment on and off the field for all.

“We welcome all who are keen to join for social reasons, learn a new skill or pick up where they left off. Our leagues merge to cater to all abilities and empower those to develop as players and continue their sporting careers.”

The spokesman added: “This CAC Qualifier tournament is a golden opportunity to push Bermuda forward in the international arena, with the top two men’s and women’s teams earning a spot in the next CAC Games, which is a Pan American Games qualifier.”
