US beauty expert presents two-day workshop

A master hairstylist and make-up artist from the US will be on Island this weekend to lead a two-day educational seminar for local beauty professionals.

Sylvia McElrath has worked in the beauty industry for more than two decades and is the owner of Renaissance Hair Studio in Norfolk, Virginia.

Specialising in healthy hair care, she takes pride in her desire to get as much education in the field as possible, so that she can remain on the cutting edge.

For the past ten years Ms McElrath has served as a senior educator for Mizani, a professional division of L’Oreal. In this role she has travelled across the US teaching and training some of the world’s top stylists about how to use the brand.

Her own work has been featured in a host of popular publications, including ‘Essence’, ‘Black Hair’, ‘Sophisticates Hair’ and ‘Hype Hair’.

Ms McElrath will be leading an event for hair professionals at the Bermuda Industrial Union Hall this Sunday and Monday.

The first day of the workshop, taking place on Sunday from 10am until 4pm, will discus beauty trends for 2013; the second day, will be on Monday from 9.30am until 5pm and will feature details on relaxing, treating and styling hair.

The event is sponsored by The Salon Store, on 81 Reid Street, Hamilton; and L’Oreal- Mizani Intl.
