Church opens its pantry for those in need

By Crystal HoldippDuring these difficult economic times where many parents are struggling to provide for their families, there is a high rising need for both spiritual and natural assistance. As people are being laid off, and pay cuts are becoming more frequent, the stress and amount of pressure can physically, spiritually, and emotionally, leave families drained.New Testament Church of God, Faith Deliverance Centre will be hosting ‘SHOP’, Sharing Hands Open Pantry, as a way to help those in need. The church will be sharing both clothing and food, with the clothing geared towards the summer months and including shoes of various sizes. The Women’s Ministry Department are the organisers of this outreach.”We are a community church and we serve our surrounding communities,” said pastor David Lambe. “Whenever there are needs (that we know of) the church ministry will do what we can to support those families when we are able.“There are many who have approached us with request and we try to help, especially if they are seniors or incapable for whatever reason.”There will be children’s, women’s and men’s clothing and the food will be non-perishable.Pastor Lambe said the idea for the pantry came about from people finding difficulty with the recession a few years back.“We started a pantry (groceries) with members bringing and/or donating food, and monies, to meet the needs of some families who needed assistance.“Through our health-screening ministry we have found many families in need of the basic necessities like food and clothing.“This need has inspired us to reach out and lend a helping hand during this season.”There will be a free clothing mart and food drive for those in need and the church is inviting those who are struggling to come by.The pantry will take place tomorrow in the church parking lot, located on 28 Curving Avenue, and will be running from 10am to 2pm.
